Excess & Umbrella
What it covers.
Prime contracts and customers often require limits above a standard primary policy. Excess and umbrella policies sit on top of general liability, auto and employer’s liability to reach that number.
We write the excess alongside the primary so the layers fit together, and build towers to contract minimums of $10M and more where needed.
Typically covers
- Limits above general liability
- Limits above auto and employer’s liability
- Defense costs once primary limits are used up
- Broader terms on some umbrella forms
What we check
- Underlying limits that match each layer
- Follow-form versus standalone wording
- The contract minimum for the whole tower
- Gaps between primary exclusions and the excess
